About The Project
The D.C. Attorney General is part of the executive branch of the D.C. government, but the position also has an obligation to serve the public interest. As such, the officer must have a certain level of independence and stability. DC Appleseed is working to help clarify the responsibilities of the Attorney General so that the office can fulfill its responsibilities to the public. In 2010, voters ratified an amendment to the District Charter to make the Attorney General an elected official in 2014. DC Appleseed is now investigating how the election can be implemented and whether it should affect the structure and role of the office.
