Public Charter Schools

About The Project

Public Charter Schools, released in April 2001.  In the 2000-2001 school year, nearly 10,000 children were enrolled in charter schools in the District, representing over 12% of all public school students. DC Appleseed's report examines several issues relating to governance of these schools including:  the presence of two separate chartering authorities and two separate laws; mechanisms for financing charter schools; and systems and standards for approving, monitoring, and revoking the charters for such schools.
