About The Project

The DC Appleseed Center has issued a report highlighting several areas in which the District of Columbia's system for running elections could be improved. According to the report, the biggest problem affecting all voters in the District is the lack of explanatory information on candidates for public office, and on initiatives and referenda that are submitted for passage in elections.  In addition to recommendations on voter information, the report recommends improved accessibility for voters with disabilities, improved accessibility for voters who speak neither English nor Spanish, and better precinct operations to protect the voters' right to cast a secret ballot.

The report is the second of two DC Appleseed reports, both of which are part of a larger Electoral Reform Project that the Center took on as a result of an invitation from the Appleseed Foundation and a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
