Administrative Assistant

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Passion for public service and a desire to improve the District of Columbia;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills;

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;

  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines;

  • Good judgment and a creative approach to problem-solving; Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) and willingness to learn other software (i.e. Bill.com, PayChex, Bloomerang, and/or Canva.)

Helpful Skills/Abilities:

  • Prior experience with administration of small non-profit organization or other business entity; and

  • Prior experience assisting with development, communications, or fundraising;

Physical Requirements:

  • Periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds with or without accommodations.

TIME COMMITMENT - Full Time Schedule
EDUCATION - High School Diploma Required
EXPERIENCE LEVEL - Mid-level/Managerial
SALARY - USD $40,000 - USD $50,000 / year

Policy Council

Small but mighty non-profit organization seeks policy counsel to focus on health and environmental equity. Organization Description: 

For over 25 years, through litigation, teamwork, and advocacy, the DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice (DC Appleseed) has helped make the District of Columbia a better place to live and work. Throughout our history, DC Appleseed tackled some of the District’s most challenging issues, generated viable solutions, and then campaigned to have those answers put into action.  As a 501(c)(3) organization, DC Appleseed is empowered by the thousands of hours of pro bono time donated by our volunteer attorneys, business leaders, and community experts.

REQUIRED

Skills/Abilities:

  • Active membership in at least one state bar;

  • J.D. or equivalent degree;

  • Passion for public service and a desire to improve the District of Columbia;

  • A strong commitment to social, economic, and racial justice;

  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, project teams, and diverse groups of stakeholders;

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills and attention to detail;

  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines;

  • Good judgment and a creative approach to problem-solving; and

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).

 

Helpful Skills/Abilities:

  • Have substantive experience in environmental justice, racial equity, health equity and related subjects;

  • Knowledge of local public policy, advocacy, and/or knowledge of District government;

  • Experience as a supervisor and/or mentor; and

  • Experience working with volunteers.

Starting salary:

$75,000-85,000 annually plus benefits including paid leave, retirement contributions, and medical, dental, and vision insurance.
